Healgorithm appears in the locu.ms locum tenens agency directory as a NALTO member. Below is a checklist of questions worth asking any locum agency before you sign — the answers, not a brand name, are what protect your pay and your license.
Questions to ask any locum agency
- 01What is your markup on my rate? The agency bills the facility more than it pays you. A transparent agency will discuss the spread; the size of that markup is the single biggest variable in locum pay.
- 02Is malpractice coverage occurrence or claims-made — and who pays the tail?Claims-made policies leave a gap when the assignment ends unless a tail is purchased. Confirm the policy type in writing and who is responsible for tail coverage.
- 03When and how often do you pay — and is there a guarantee?Payment timing (weekly vs. monthly, days to first check) and any minimum-hours or shift guarantee belong in the contract, not a verbal promise.
- 04Are you a NALTO member, and do you follow its code of ethics?NALTO membership signals a published code of conduct. It is not a guarantee of any outcome, but it is a reasonable question to ask.
- 05How does your recruiter conduct work — will you present my CV only with my permission?Reputable agencies get explicit consent before submitting your CV to a facility, to avoid duplicate submissions that can cost you an assignment.
